For some couples, as an expression of your personality of you as a couple, there is no need to discuss whether to have a theme for your wedding and which one. It will be obvious. If you met at a preview of Star Wars, always go on Star Wars related dates and have a house full of memorabilia it's potentially a pretty obvious thing to do. But for many couples the choice isn't so easy. If one of you is fanatical but the other doesn't share the passion, or you don't like the idea of bringing your hobbies in to your wedding, then it's perhaps better to either not theme your wedding or keep it subtle.
That said, for many couples, those little added extras and details are what makes your wedding memorable and different and having a theme to tie those details together can help to make it an even more special and memorable occasion for you and your guests - not to mention making for great fun photos.
There are many ways you can theme your wedding, you can go the whole way and have a theme that is immediate to guests from the moment you send out invitations, or you can have subtle little images and phrases throughout the day that mean something to you both. They can be carried through decorations, clothes, favours, flowers, cakes, food - pretty much every element of your day is possible to tie in to a theme.
The first thing to remember is that the day is about you as a couple and although your families and friends opinions are important, the day is to celebrate the joining of you and your partner! As a wedding guest it's always fun to see a couple who have done something unique on the day, whether it be theming their day to their favourite film or having each song on their playlist explained with why they selected the song on a little booklet.
Different ways to theme your wedding….
Colours! Theme your wedding to the season, pastels for spring, deep colours for autumn and glitter throughout the year!
Music… why not have Disney soundtracks through your wedding breakfast, movie anthems to get the guests going or classical music to bring an element of tradition and class to your day
Something different..! I've met couples who have decided to theme their whole day around something unique. One favourite was a couple with a marvel themed wedding, they had little lego marvel characters as their button holes, each table was colour matched to a character and the favours were all matched to the guests favourite character. Yes this took a LOT of planning for the couple but it is a wedding the guests will never forget
Vintage Chic! By far one of the most popular wedding themes of the past few years, vintage styled weddings with old crates, antique frames and candelabras really work well in barn conversions, manor houses and marquees. Although this can be done very cost effectively with recycling and upcycling items, many shops now charge more than ever for this style of decor due the huge demand.
There's so much fun to be had from theming a wedding - and if you need any ideas all of our suppliers will have bags of experience that they bring to the table which can be used to creatively tailor your special day.
